Asian Games 2023 Hockey: India thrash Singapore in another goal riot to win 16-1 in men’s pool

India will look onto their next challenge in defending champions Japan on Thursday, 28th September.

The Harmanpreet Singh-led Indian men’s hockey team continued their dominance at the Asian Games 2023 as they thrashed Singapore 16-1 to win their second match in Pool A. Despite being ranked as the top-side team, the Men in Blue surpassed their 49th ranked opponent to be on the front foot. Earlier, the India men's side beat Uzbekistan 16-0 in their opener.

While skipper Harmanpreet Singh stood firm, scoring four goals from penalty corners at the 24th, 39th, 40th, and 42nd minute of the game, Mandeep Singh bolstered the attack with a hattrick. Mandeep hit the back of the net in the 12th, 30th and the 50th minute. Abhishek (51st and 52nd), Varun (scored two - 55th), Lalit Kumar (16th), Gurjant Singh (22nd), Vivek Sagar (23rd), Manpreet Singh (37th) and Shamsher Singh (38th) also added in India’s tally.

On the other hand, Zaki Zulkarnain scored the only consolation goal for Singapore in the match. India will look onto their next challenge in Japan on Thursday, 28th September, Singapore will take another nation in their next Pool A match.
