Asian Games 2023: Pooja Vastrakar, skeet shooter Angad Vir Singh Bajwa among 22 names added in Indian contingent

The total contingent list for India now stands at 921, including 655 athletes and 260 coaches and support staff members across 39 disciplines.

Cricketer Pooja Vastrakar and skeet shooter Angad Vir Singh Bajwa have been added to the revised Indian squad for the Asian Games 2023, announced by the Sports Ministry on Thursday, September 14. The updated Indian roster has 22 new athletes added to the existing list and made changes for 25 members participating at the 2023 Asian Games, which are set to begin on September 19.

The Indian sports ministry had earlier announced a list of 634 athletes for the Hangzhou Asian Games, which was the largest Indian contingent at the games ever, and the number has further gone up to 655 after the latest changes. Pacer Pooja Vastrakar will join the Indian women’s cricket team at the Asian Games 2023, replacing injured left-arm pacer Anjali Sarvani.


Skeet shooter Angad Vir Singh Bajwa was also given the go-ahead for the 2023 Asian Games after a recommendation by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI). Amlan Borgohain will compete in the men’s 200m event in Hangzhou after making the cut at the recently concluded Indian Grand Prix in Chandigarh. 


Basketball player Princepal Singh was added to the Indian 3*3 squad, along with five additions to the ju-jitsu squad and four additions to the kurash contingent. India will also compete in the modern pentathlon at the Asian Games, with the only representative being Mayank Chaphekar.
