The Asian Games will kick off in Hangzhou on September 23, but the sailing events will begin on September 21 at the Ningbo Xiangshan Sailing Centre. The 16-man Indian contingent is led by Nethra Kumanan, Vishnu Saravanan, KC Ganapathy, and Varun Thakkar and started the competition in an impressive fashion, as Kumanan ended the day in third place in the ILCA6 event while Saravanan was second in the ILCA7.

Kumanan finished fifth in women's laser radial at the last edition and will look to improve on it at the 2023 Asian Games. The duos of Harshita-Shital and Idar-Rmaya ranked third with three race points each.

The sailing event will continue until September 27, and the athletes will continue their quest for a medal tomorrow, September 22, from 9 a.m. IST onwards. The Asian Games 2023 are also qualifiers for the Paris 2024 Olympics sailing events, with quotas on offer to the national teams in windsurfing, dinghy, and kiteboarding events in men’s and women’s singles categories.
