The Indian pair of Dipika Pallikal and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu scripted history by winning the first-ever mixed doubles gold at the Asian Games 2023, Hangzhou, the Republic of China. The top-seeded Indian duo beat the Aifa Azman and Mohammad Kamal pair of Malaysia in two straight games 11-10, 11-10 to finish on top of the podium. With their stellar victory, Pallikal and Singh extended India's gold medal tally to 20 in the 19th season of the continental showpiece.

After the win, Pallikal told the PTI,  "I don't always remember what happens on court. It's a blur for both of us. We only remember the last point. We are more than happy. We are very proud of the fact we are here and won gold." 

"Myself and Harinder have worked really, really hard to be here at this moment, to be part of this team and to win the gold. We are very humbled to be in this position that we are right now."
