In a recent development in the world of football, Aston Villa have reportedly offered Chelsea a chance to sign Argentinian goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez in the ongoing summer transfer window. The West Midlands club are looking to save themselves from potentially failing the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability (PSR) rules, and that’s why they have been forced to generate revenue by selling the FIFA World Cup winner.

As per the report published in the Mirror, Aston Villa are well aware of Chelsea’s requirement of a No. 1 goalkeeper due to a tough last season for both Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen under manager Enzo Maresca. At the same time, it is understood that Emiliano Martinez is preferring a move to Manchester United in the ongoing summer transfer window, who have been linked with him recently, but there has been no formal approach from them for the player.

Manchester United can't afford to pursue Emiliano Martinez without selling Andre Onana

Currently, Manchester United are already looking to spend money on other positions under manager Ruben Amorim, to help him get the best out of his 3-4-3 system. With that, if the Red Devils are unable to sell their struggling goalkeeper Andre Onana in the ongoing summer transfer window, they are expected to not officially pursue Emiliano Martinez.

With Chelsea having the option given to them by Aston Villa to sign Emiliano Martinez, the Argentine could end up in Chelsea blues very soon. It is specially when assistant club manager Willy Caballero has been a big admirer of the Argentine goalkeeper, who has had six exceptional years at Aston Villa, and during this time, he also played a key role in Argentina’s FIFA World Cup win in 2022.
