On Monday, January 20, Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) announced their skipper for the upcoming edition of the tournament. While the announcement came in a special sit-down interview with LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka and presentor Jatin Sapru, the newly-appointed captain Rishabh Pant also vouched on bringing the title home.
While the star Indian wicketkeeper-batter put his intentions clear during the special screening announcement, the Principal Owner and Chairman of RPSG Group, Sanjiv Goenka also made his expections clear. In the latest update, it has come to notice that Goenka expects Pant to play at least for 14-15 years in the Lucknow kit.
We hope at least five IPL titles in 14-15 years: Sanjiv Goenka
Although Goenka expects Pant to play for LSG for at least 14-15 years, he also added that in these years, he would expect him to win at least five IPL titles. "Surely Rishabh Pant will play for at least 14-15 years for us, we hope at least five IPL titles in these years," Goenka said on Star Sports. He also expressed on securing the services of Pant, hailing him to be one of the most successful IPL captains in future, alongside MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma.
"People say that MI and CSK are more successful. Mahi and Rohit are undeniably brilliant. Mark my words, after 10 years, people will say, Mahi, Rohit, and Rishabh," the LSG owner said. "In my belief, time will prove that he is not only the most successful player of the IPL, but he is going to be the best player of the IPL. I haven't seen players with that kind of passion and hunger to win," he continued.
It is to be noted that LSG roped in Rishabh Pant for a record breaking price of INR 27 Crore. With this, he became the most expensive player in the history of IPL auctions. Prior to this, LSG was led by KL Rahul, under whom the franchise finished in the playoffs twice and missed a berth in final four last season in 2024.
