The second Test of the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series between Australia and India is set to begin on Friday, December 6, at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide, which will be a day-night pink ball contest. After going 1-0 up in the series with a dominant victory in the first Test at the Optus Stadium in Perth under the leadership of Jasprit Bumrah, India will be aiming to win back-to-back matches in Australia, to put Australia firmly on the backfoot in the series.
With the return of captain Rohit Sharma to the Indian squad after missing out on the first Test due to personal reasons, the playing XI of the visitors will be further bolstered. On the other hand, Australia will be missing the services of their reliable fast bowler Josh Hazlewood due to a side strain issue, which would mean a return to Test cricket for Scotte Boland after more than a year.
While the odds aren’t quite in the favour of Australia, they have won all their day-night pink ball Test matches at the Adelaide Oval, including a famous victory over India in 2021 after bowling them out for 36. The hosts will be taking inspiration from their previous top performances at the venue, which could help them spark a comeback in the ongoing BGT Test series.
Talking about the weather for day one of the second Test at the Adelaide Oval, it is expected to stay cloudy, windy, and humid throughout the day, according to the listings on AccuWeather. The probability of precipitation on Friday, December 6, stands at 9% and the probability of thunderstorms stands at 2% during the day time hours, while it won’t be much different in the evening either.
During the first day’s play in Adelaide, there will be wind gusts of around 37 km/h during the day, which could help in blowing away possible rain from the venue, but in the evening, the wind gusts won't be quite as potent. Therefore, the fans might have to endure a few rain interruptions when Australia and India take on each other at the Adelaide Oval.
