The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 was abruptly suspended for one week on Friday, May 9, following the escalations in border conflict between India and Pakistan over the past few days. With that, the Australian players boarded flights out of India on Saturday, and it is now understood that if the IPL 2025 resumes next week, then they might refuse to return to India due to security concerns.

Notably, the likes of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and Travis Head have managed to leave India just a day ago, as per the report published in the Australian news website The Age. But with the BCCI rumoured to restart the IPL next week, with plans to conclude it as per the originally scheduled final on May 25, the Australian players are currently questioning whether they should return to India to compete in the tournament.

With just 16 matches remaining in IPL 2025, it could take a two week window to complete it

Just a day before IPL 2025 was suspended for a week, the match 58th of the tournament between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) was called off midway due to a significant technical failure, as per the BCCI statement. It was later revealed that the match stopped due to the warning received by the officials about a potential air raid to happen from across the border.

With just 16 matches remaining in the IPL 2025, it could take a two week window ideally for the tournament to get completed, but with the BCCI aiming to finish it in less time, the workload on certain teams will be higher if they reach the playoffs. All in all, everything is up in the air in regards to what will happen to the league in the next few weeks, especially with the uncertainty surrounding the Indo-PAK conflict.
