Five-time champions Australia registered their maiden win at the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 on Monday, October 16. The Pat Cummins-led side beat Sri Lanka by five wickets at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

While the team from Down Under finally opened their win account in the CWC 2023, their last match opponents, Sri Lanka are yet to open their account, having lost all three matches so far in the tournament. Notably, during the match between the Aussies and the Lankans, several Australian fans were seeing shouting “Ganpati Bappa Moriya” with several other fans present inside the stadium. Video of the same is now doing rounds on social media.

While the Aussie fans continued to chant ‘Ganpati Bappa Moriya’, there were also chants of ‘Vande Matram’ as several others joined in.
Talking about the match, while Australia registered their first win, moving to the eighth place in the standings, Sri Lanka take the ninth spot with a comparative negative Net Run Rate to be only above Netherlands, who are yet to register a win.
