Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) opener Ayush Mhatre’s father Yogesh Mhatre has advised his son not to imitate Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who is serving Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. In this marquee T20 tournament, eyes are set on two under-18 debutants Mhatre and Suryavanshi. Suryavanshi recently grabbed attention for his maiden IPL century which came in just 35 balls against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Jaipur on April 28 while Mhatre also played an impressive knock of 94 off 48 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 3.
With the debut of two young top-order batters, cricket fans are drawing parallels between both which can build pressure on either of them. Noting this fact, Ayush’s father Yogesh has warned his son not to be impacted by any such comparisons and play his natural game. “I’ve told Ayush that he and Vaibhav are two very different batsmen and that if someone compares him with Vaibhav, he should not keep that in mind. I have also told him not to try to imitate Vaibhav or look to score a century like him. I believe there is absolutely no need for Ayush to take any pressure upon himself and try to do big things. He has a long way to go," said Yogesh to Mid-Day.
CSK will take on KKR on May 7
Chennai’s next game will be against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the iconic Eden Gardens on May 7. Ayush Mhatre will look to take his magnificent batting form ahead. In his previous outing against RCB, he looked sensational with his bat and won several hearts.
Chennai Super Kings will look to spoil KKR’s party as reigning champions are still alive in the playoffs race. Knight Riders have three games left and they need to win all of them to qualify for the next round. CSK will strive to avenge their previous defeat which came against Ajinkya Rahane-led side at Chepauk on April 11.
