Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam, who has been going through a rough phase, has finally got relief in the Hamzia Mukhtar sexual harassment case. The Lahore High Court (LHC) summoned Mukhtar to appear for the next hearing on December 12. The development came after Azam challenged a trial court’s decision to register the case against him. Notably, Azam has been going through a rough patch in both his professional and personal life. Earlier this year, Azam was stripped off captaincy by PCB after a series of poor performances.
Not only this, but the cricketer hasn’t been able to score an international hundred for almost a year and hence, was dropped from the Test team against England in September. To make things worse, Hamzia Mukhtar filed a sexual harassment case against him. However, there is a sigh of relief for the cricketer as the Lahore High Court has reportedly summoned the petitioner to appear for the next hearing. The case has been presided over by Justice Mohammed Waheed Khan and he extended the order for filing a case on the cricketer.
Hamiza Akhtar’s allegations against Babar Azam
According to Hamzia Mukhtar, Azam was in a long-term relationship with her. She alleged that she got pregnant during their relationship and the cricketer pressured her to terminate the pregnancy. She further stated that the former Pakistan captain had assured her of marriage to resolve the situation. As per several portals, Mukhtar attached medical documents to support her claims and filed an application with the police to register an FIR. She also stated that the police were reluctant to act on her complaint.
According to the police report, “Neither petitioner Hamiza nor her family members were blackmailed and harassed by police at the behest of Babar Azam’s family. So the allegation levelled by her to the extent of ‘harassing, blackmailing and pressuring’ is proved false."
