Bangladeshi cricketing superstar Mahmudullah, who is 39 years of age, has reportedly requested the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to not consider him for the new central contract in March 2025. As per the reports, in the proposed central contract list of players this year, Mahmudullah was set to be in Grade B category, but now that he has made a request to the BCB to not offer him the deal, the right-handed batter will be free to venture into playing franchise cricket full-time.

According to the report published in Cricbuzz, the new central contract list was drafted before being tabled in the last BCB meeting, but it wasn’t given an approval immediately. Following the conclusion of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where Bangladesh didn’t win any of their three group stage matches, the questions were raised about the place of senior players like Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim, with the latter announcing his retirement from ODI cricket.

Mahmudullah is already retired from Tests and T20Is

Since Mahmudullah isn’t going to be a centrally contracted player, it is highly likely that he won’t be a part of the Bangladesh ODI setup anymore after he had already retired from Tests and T20Is. Moreover, despite that, the veteran is going to receive the salary for the first two months of the ongoing year 2025 since he was centrally contracted back then.

In another vital detail around the international career of Mahmudullah, as per the report from Cricbuzz, he gave clarity to the BCB about not being interested in playing the ODI World Cup 2027, which will be going down in around two-and-a-half years time. With that, it can be said that the decision from him in regards to not looking for a new central contract is a step towards winding down his illustrious international career as a Bangladesh cricketer.
