Bayern Munich reportedly decided to sell Netherlands international Matthijs de Ligt despite the team manager Vincent Kompany wanted him to stay. The head coach of Bayern Munich even conveyed to the Dutch player that he was his "Number One" defender, but the club officials decided to let him go to Manchester United regardless.

The German club sold Matthijs de Ligt to Manchester United for £38.5m ($50.5m), apart from getting  £5m ($6.5m) in add-ons. However, t he Athletic  revealed other details around the deal. wherein Vincent Kompany wanted the 25-year-old to stay in the team but the top brass of the club didn't agree with him.

The report further reveals that Matthijs de Ligt’s camp felt that the Bavarians were playing games in regards to his whether he would stay or leave the club.

Moreover, Matthijs de Ligt started on the bench when the English club Manchester United played against Fulham last weekend in the Premier League. The Red Devils won the game 1-0 with Joshua Zirkzee scoring in the 87th minute after the Dutchman made his presence felt in defence off the bench in the second half.

The Red Devils will play against Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday, August 24, where de Ligt might get a start from the opening minute of the match . On the other hand, his former club Bayern Munich are yet to play a game in the Bundesliga 2024-25 season.
