The Men in Blue after a brilliant performance at the 2023 Cricket World Cup, are taking on six-time World Champions Australia in a five-match T20I series at home. However, the Suryakumar Yadav-led side are 2-1 up in the five-match series, having lost the third T20I at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Tuesday, 28 November.
However, the team is currently being coached by former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman as Rahul Dravid’s stint as the head coach of Team India concluded with the ODI World Cup 2023 final loss against Australia. While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) continues to look to fill the vacant spot, former India pacer, Ashish Nehra has reportedly turned down the offer.
As per a report published by The Indian Express, Ashish Nehra has declined the offer of being the T20 coach for the side. Additionally, Nehra was offered the role in pursuit of breaking India’s decade long ICC title drought after IPL franchise, Gujarat Titans finished as the winners on debut in 2022 under Nehra’s coaching role. The then Hardik Pandya-led side also finished as the runners-up in 2023 edition of the tournament with Ashish Nehra as the head coach.
BCCI keen to offer contract extension to Rahul Dravid
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly looking in to retain former head coach Rahul Dravid until the T20 World Cup, set to take place next year. As per a report by The Indian Express, Dravid hasn’t given a nod to BCCI’s offer as he continues to look for future options.
Additionally, the former India skipper has reportedly been approached by IPL franchise, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for the role of a mentor for the 2024 edition of the cash-rich league.
