Team India crashed out of the highly anticipated T20 Asia Cup 2022 after facing back-to-back defeat in Super-4 stage of the continental tournament. Despite being unbeaten in the league stage, Rohit Sharma & Co. failed to continue their performance in the advanced stage of the tournament and eventually got eliminated from the T20 competition.
Men in Blue suffered a major blow ahead of the tournament in the form of Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah who was ruled out of the tournament due to injury. Half-way down the competition the defending champions dealt with another blow in the form of quality all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja who suffered an injury during an 'adventure activity.' The gravity of the injury was such that Jadeja had to immediately fly back Mumbai and went through the surgery under the guidance of BCCI consultant and senior orthopaedic surgeon Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala.
While India's quest in Asia Cup 2022 ended on Thursday evening, fresh report claimed that BCCI officials are miffed with the way Jadeja suffered an injury and has sort an explanation.
According to report published in Times of India, Ravindra Jadeja was asked to undergo some water-based training activity in the 'blackwater' facility of the premises in the hotel in Dubai, where the Team India was based out while participating in the Asia Cup 2022.
TOI reported that adventure activity in which Jadeja participated was not part of the training manual for the cricketers. "He had to blame himself on some kind of a ski-board as part of an adventure activity. It was absolute unnecessary. He slipped and twisted his knee badly, which has now led to his exclusion from the squad," source was quoted. The report further claimed that BCCI officials are also surprised over head coach Rahul Dravid's response on the matter.
"Ideally, one would have expected Rahul Dravid to get upset with such development but he seemed completely cool. Now the situation will force Team India to travel Australia without Ravindra Jadeja," added highly placed source. Notably, Ravindra Jadeja's absence was heavily missed in the Super-4 stage as the defending champions struggled in the middle-order and lost two matches on the trot. Jadeja's exclusion from the squad forced management to drop in-form Dinesh Karthik from the squad and opted for left-handed batter Rishabh Pant in the squad, who failed to make a mark in the tournament.
Team India will now engage in a three-match T20 home series against Australia starting from September 20. Meanwhile, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will lock horns in the final of the Asia Cup 2022, at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 11 (Sunday).
