Moments after Asmita Dey added a golden chapter in the history of judo at Commonwealth Games for India, Harsh Singh ensured the celebrations continue with his medal delivering performance at the quadrennial event. Singh won India’s second gold in judo, and became the first male judoka to secure a top-podium finish for the country. Contesting in the men's 60 kg category, Singh got the better of Australia’s Joshua Katz by Waza-Ari (10-0) on Friday in Glasgow.
Singh began the contest on a slight back note as his Australian rival got off aggressively and aimed to secure an early advantage. However, Singh displayed remarkable defensive skills and denied his Aussie counterpart any scoring opportunities. While neither judoka managed to register any score for much of the summit clash, the Indian judoka delivered the decisive moment at 3:19 by executing a perfectly timed throw and pinning his rival to earn a Waza-Ari. It proved enough to secure him a win and a historical CWG gold.
