The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly sacked batting coach Abhishek Nayar and fielding coach T Dilip from head coach Gautam Gambhir’s support staff in the Indian cricket team following their poor showing in the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test series at the turn of the year, losing it 3-1 to Australia. It is understood that the BCCI has also relieved the team trainer Soham Desai from his job after he was a part of the setup for the last three years.

As per the report published in Dainik Jagran, Abhishek Nayar has been sacked from the batting coach role after being a part of Gautam Gambhir’s support staff for the last eight months despite being quite popular among the players and fans alike. T Dilip, who is often seen in the social media videos on the official Instagram account of the Indian cricket team, giving away the coveted fielding medal to the players, has also been let go after three years of service.

Ryan ten Doeschate expected to oversee T Dilip's fielding coach role

While the BCCI hasn’t confirmed this development yet, the report goes on to detail that the notice to the support staff members was sent about removing them from the job if they have been working for more than three years. With that, T Dilip and Soham Desai are now being let go, and the latter will be replaced by Adrian Le Roux of South Africa, who is currently working with Punjab Kings (PBKS) during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.

In regards to Abhishek Nayar and T Dilip, there are no new appointments planned yet by the BCCI despite the upcoming five-match Test series away to England, scheduled to begin in just over two months’ time. Sitanshu Kotak, who is already a part of the Indian cricket team, could fill in the batting coach role of Abhishek Nayar, while Ryan ten Doeschate is set to oversee the fielding coach role after the departure of T Dilip.
