The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has scheduled a meeting with all the owners of the Indian Premier League (IPL) teams to have a discussion on various topics including next year’s mega auction. The meeting is reported to take place in Ahmedabad on April 16, the same day on which Gujarat Titans will face Delhi Capitals in Narendra Modi Stadium.
Though the invitations have been proposed to call all ten owners of the franchises, the owners will likely travel with the CEO and operational teams. However, the crucial meeting, which clears various agendas is significantly targeted for the owners only.
According to Cricbuzz, BCCI President Roger Binny, Secretary Jay Shah, and Chairman of IPL Arun Dhumal are likely to attend the meeting. The discussion targets the next year’s mega auctions, the retentions of the squad, and the number of squads that could be retained for next year.
Notably, the IPL owners are divided on the part of the number of retentions that teams could avail for next year’s mega auction. Some of the owners have asked to increase the number of retained players, arguing that the teams have established their base and that would enable them continuity in the following years.
Another wing, which is in a suit of the least number of retentions instead argues over the reintroduction of the Right to Match card, which enables the team to pick the unretained players in the IPL auction on his bidding price. Previously four RTM cards were available to the franchises to hold their base players.
Apart from that, the BCCI would likely discuss with the owners about the salary cap of the teams. The owners had argued to increase the salary cap from the previous 100 crore considering the increase in the revenue share of the BCCI due to a staggering broadcast deal of ₹ 48,390 crore a couple of years ago.
