After the match 58th of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) was called off due to a significant technical failure at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamshala, the fate of the tournament has suddenly come into question. It is reportedly understood that the BCCI officials are set to take a call on the future of the IPL 2025 season in the next 24 hours amid the security concerns due to cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.

In the aftermath of the Operation Sindoor launched by the Indian Army on terrorist installations in Pakistan, the security of the players, support staff, broadcast crew, and the fans have come into intense scrutiny. With the latest IPL 2025 match getting called off in Dharamshala due to power outage causing floodlight failure, the players and fans were asked to leave the HPCA Stadium immediately by the officials, including IPL chairman Arun Dhumal.

We will take a call on the tournament's future depending on the situation tomorrow: Rajeev Shukla

The report published in Times of India stated that the BCCI has planned a special train to get the players, support staff, and broadcast crew out of Himachal Pradesh and to a safe zone. They also quoted BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla as saying, “We are organising a special train from close to Dharamsala to bring everybody home safely. As of now the match has been called off and the stadium has been evacuated.”

“We will take a call on the tournament's future depending on the situation tomorrow. As of now, players' safety is utmost important. The match couldn't have continued tonight because of the situation. It wasn't safe,” he added.

Meanwhile, the post on the official X account from Times of India journalist Sahil Malhorta on the latest development read, “Meeting of the IPL Governing Council is underway. A call on the tournament could well be taken now. Panic has gripped the IPL teams.”
