With the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 just less than ten days away from start, the Men in Blue are still waiting for an update on Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah. Although, the Indian pacer is currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru where he underwent scans and thorough assessment under the supervision of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical team.

However, the details of the report are not yet revealed, as per reports, the results were internally discussed and the pacer is now set to commence his rehabilitation at the NCA. Furthermore, the reports add that Bumrah will begin physical activity, which involves gym work along with some light bowling in the next 24 to 48 hours.

BCCI to wait for an update on Jasprit Bumrah's fitness

With the International Cricket Council (ICC) giving February 12 as the deadline date for all eight teams to submit their final squad, this comes as a positive one for India, who will heavily rely on Bumrah for the marquee tournament. As reported by a source close to the developments by Times of India, “Even if there is a 1% chance, the BCCI is likely to wait.”

“They did the same with Hardik Pandya as they waited for close to two weeks before getting Prasidh Krishna as a replacement. Even when Shubman Gill was down with dengue, they didn’t have any thoughts of looking for a replacement. Yes, those two incidents happened during the campaign, but the approach with Bumrah could well be no different. This is just the deadline to submit the squad, and they could approach the Event Technical Committee at a later stage to seek a replacement if he fails to regain fitness," the source further added.

It is to be noted that the Indian seamer was asked to off-load for five weeks after the Sydney Test against Australia. However, he was named in India’s preliminary squad for Champions Trophy as well as the third ODI, but was later removed from the ODI squad. Earlier this month, he reported at the NCA for scans and assessments, and is now racing against time to get fit for the marquee tournament.
