The wait of 17 years is finally over as Royal Challengers Bengaluru won their maiden IPL title defeating Punjab Kings in the final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Rajat Patidar-led team defeated PBKS by six runs followed by the high intense emotions shown by Virat Kohli and loud ‘RCB, RCB’ chants at the highly packed Narendra Modi Stadium.
Batting first, RCB posted a total of 190/9 in their 20 overs. Virat Kohli was top scorer with 43 runs off 35 balls. Apart from that, Jitesh Sharma also scored a quickfire 24(10) runs along with Liam Livingstone’s 15-ball 25 runs. For PBKS, Kyle Jamieson and Arshdeep Singh took three wickets each, while Azmatullah Omarzai, Vijaykumar Vyshak and Yuzvendra Chahal scalped a wicket each.
Chasing the winning target, PBKS also got a flying start as Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh added 43 runs for the first wicket in five overs before Phil Salt took an spectacular catch to end to Arya’s innings. Josh Inglis scored 39(23) runs while Shashank Singh top scored with an unbeaten 61*(30) runs. However, his late efforts went in vain as PBKS were restricted to 184/7 after the end of the 20 overs. After the match, the fans reacted with hilarious memes and several emotional posts on social media.
Talking about PBKS, they ended up losing their second IPL final after 11 years.
