During the third session on day five of the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester, Ben Stokes, the captain of England, offered the Indian all-rounder pair of Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar the chance to call off the game before the start of the last hour. But with both the batters finding themselves close to reaching the three-figure score, they decided to not shake the hand of Ben Stokes to draw the Manchester Test, which angered the English skipper.
With the decision from Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar to continue batting in their pursuit of their 100s, the rest of England players didn’t like the scenario either, and a few of them let their feelings known to the Indian all-rounders. It led to Ben Stokes giving Joe Root and Harry Brook to bowl the remaining 15 overs of the Test match at Old Trafford in Manchester.
This allowed Ravindra Jadeja to get to his fifth Test hundred in style, hitting Harry Brook for a comprehensive six. A few overs later, Washington Sundar brought up his maiden Test hundred after taking a single on the bowling of Harry Brook as well, following which the England and Indian players shaked hands to end the Manchester Test in a draw with the visitors scoring 425/4 in 143 overs, taking a second innings lead of 114 runs.
Following the draw being confirmed, Ben Stokes did shake the hand of Ravindra Jadeja, who apparently played a bigger role in taking the game into the last hour with a draw being the obvious result, but with his century on the line.
