Chennai Super Kings have been handed another massive blow ahead of their next clash in IPL 2023 . CSK all-rounder Ben Stokes has suffered another set-back regarding his injury and is said to be out for another week. The English all-rounder had a toe injury which has kept him out for four games. In the post-match conference after win over Sunrisers Hyderabad, Head Coach Stephen Fleming gave an update on Stokes’s injury and said, “He (Stokes) had another little setback yesterday so he will probably be a few days or a week away.”
He continued and emphasized that their focus is getting him fully fit and then deciding where he will fit in the eleven. The coach said, “The first thing is him being fit and then if we have a headache around selection, the nature of the IPL is that things happen. Our priority is to get him fit. At the moment, he’s not quite ready, But as soon as he is, we’ll worry about the next part."
The English all-rounder was bought by the Chennai Super Kings at the December auction for INR 16. 25 Crore. This also made him Chennai’s most expensive recruit ever and one of the highest-paid players in the league.
CSK have a long list of injuries as even the captain MS Dhoni is nursing a knee injury. They lost Deepak Chahar to a hamstring injury and Sisanda Magala suffered a split webbing. Pacer Simarjeet Singh missed the entire domestic season and is still recovering.
The Men in Yellow are however reeling in the top half of the points table after four wins from six matches so far in the tournament. Their last win came in their most recent fixture against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 21. They will now face KKR on April 23 (Sunday) at Eden Gardens.
