On Sunday, January 26, Chris Martin, the lead vocalist and pianist of Coldplay, a British rock band, paid a fitting tribute to Indian cricketer Jasprit Bumrah during their latest concert at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In front of around 1,00,000 fans in attendance, Chris Martin called Jasprit Bumrah “the best bowler in the whole of cricket,” and on the jumbotron, the exploits of the Ahmedabad-born cricketer destroying the English batting lineup in Test cricket was played for everyone to see.

Notably, as part of the Music of the Spheres World Tour, Chris Martin first mentioned Jasprit Bumrah at his concert at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai earlier this month, to promote last night’s concert in Ahmedabad. In response, the Indian fast bowler took to his Instagram account, and wrote, “This made me smile! Incredible vibe at the @coldplay concert in Mumbai (from what I’ve seen here) and even more special to be mentioned.”

The best bowler in the whole of cricket: Chris Martin on Jasprit Bumrah

Fast forward to India’s Republic Day, Jasprit Bumrah was present at the Narendra Modi Stadium to witness the magic of Coldplay’s live and in-person. During the closing stages of the concert, Chris Martin acknowledged the Indian cricketer, and remarked, “Okay, I got it, I got it, I got it, I got it, Jasprit. Jasprit , well Jasprit my beautiful brother, the best bowler in the whole of cricket. We do not enjoy watching you destroy England with wicket after wicket after wicket."

As Martin lauded plaudits for Bumrah on stage, the crowd at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad went gaga, showcasing the ever-increasing popularity of the Indian fast bowler not just among the ardent cricket watchers, but the casual fans as well. Moreover, the right-arm pacer is currently nursing a back injury sustained during the fifth and the final Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test match between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) earlier this month.

He is slated to return to competitive cricket during next month’s home ODI series between India and England before the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
