Bhavi na Patel won the gold medal at the ITTF Thailand Para Open 2023. She defeated Thailand’s Wijittra Jaion in the gold medal match of the tournament. However, this is not her first medal at an ITTF event. She has won the gold medal twice in the women’s single category. The first came at the ITTF Fa20 Spanish Open, while the second came at the ITTF Egypt Para Open.
She became a household name much before as she first created history when she brought home the silver at the 2020 (2021)Tokyo Paralympics. At the event, she reached the semi-finals after defeating Borislava Rankovic and won the silver medal after being defeated by Zhou Ying in the gold medal match.
She continued her incredible form at the Commonwealth Games, which took place the following year in Birmingham. In Birmingham, she swept Chirstina of Nigeria, winning 3-0. The 2020 Tokyo Paralympics silver medalist lost just one set on her way to winning the gold. Bhavina Patel shed a tear as the Indian anthem began to play as she stood on the podium to accept her gold medal. She has won numerous medals in the doubles category as well. The Government acknowledged her heroics and conferred the Arjuna Award to honour her in 2021.
