Ahead of their final match of the three-match Test series against England, Pakistan batter Azhar Ali has announced that he will retire after the last match against the Three Lions, starting from December 17. The final Test match between two sides will take place at the National Stadium in Karachi.
The Ben Stokes-led England team have already sealed the series, and will go in the final Test as favourites. On the other hand, Babar Azam-led Pakistan team will look to survive a clean sweep at their home turf.
On Friday, Azhar Ali said, "It has been a great honour and privilege for me to represent my country at the highest level. Deciding on when to call it a day is always tough, but, after contemplating deeply, I realised that this is the right time for me to retire from Test cricket.
"I have been blessed to share the dressing room with some of the most outstanding cricketers with whom I share a strong bond. I feel much richer by calling these people my friends. I am also blessed to have played under some wonderful coaches to whom I will always remain grateful," he added.
Azhar Ali has played a total of 95 Tests thus far and amassed over 7000 runs with as many as 19 hundreds. The star batter will try to end his Test career on high and help his side win the final Test.
