The Indian Premier League (IPL) has witnessed some truly dominant performances over the years, with teams producing massive victories both by runs and by wickets. Wins by huge run margins reflect a team’s complete dominance across both batting and bowling, where imposing totals are defended emphatically. On the other hand, victories by large wicket margins showcase the chasing team’s authority, often led by explosive opening partnerships and clinical bowling efforts that restrict opponents to modest totals.
Biggest victories by runs margin in IPL history
The biggest victory in IPL history came in 2017 when Mumbai Indians demolished Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) by a staggering 146 runs at the Feroz Shah Kotla (now Arun Jaitley Stadium) in Delhi. Batting first, Mumbai piled up an imposing total of 212 for three, courtesy of explosive innings from Lendl Simmons and Kieron Pollard. Delhi’s chase never got going as their batting line-up crumbled under pressure. The Mumbai bowlers, led by Harbhajan Singh and Karn Sharma, dismantled Delhi for 66 in just 13.4 overs, sealing the largest margin of victory by runs in IPL history.
The second-biggest win came in 2016 when Royal Challengers Bangalore thrashed Gujarat Lions by 144 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Batting first, RCB unleashed a batting masterclass, amassing a colossal 248 for three. AB de Villiers lit up the night with an unbeaten 129 off 52 deliveries, while Virat Kohli complemented him perfectly with a blistering 109 from 55 balls. Their incredible 229-run partnership left Gujarat Lions stunned.

Biggest victories by wickets margin in IPL history
In the 2008 IPL season, Deccan Chargers secured the biggest wins by wickets when they thrashed Mumbai Indians by 10 wickets at the DY Patil Stadium. After restricting Mumbai to 154/7, thanks to disciplined bowling from RP Singh and Shahid Afridi, the Chargers made light work of the chase. Adam Gilchrist was unstoppable, smashing a blistering 109* off just 47 balls, while VVS Laxman provided steady support at the other end. The openers chased down the target in just 12 overs, sealing a dominant 10-wicket victory.
Royal Challengers Bangalore delivered a commanding performance to secure a historic 10-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals, one of the most dominant wins in IPL history by wicket margin. After bowling out Rajasthan for just 92 runs, thanks to Kumble’s 3/9 and Praveen Kumar’s hat-trick, RCB’s openers made light work of the chase. Jacques Kallis (44*) and Manish Pandey (42*) stitched an unbroken partnership to reach the target in just 10.4 overs, with 56 balls to spare, making it a record-breaking win by wickets at the time.
