On Monday, April 28, teenage sensation, Vaibhav Suryavanshi announced himself on the world stage, hitting the fastest century in men’s T20 cricket. The 14-year-old youngster, who hails from Bihar, reached the triple-digit figure in just 35 balls, making him the fastest centurion in T20 cricket and the second fastest in the Indian Premier League (IPL), sitting only behind legend Chris Gayle.

With an innings of 101 off 38 deliveries, Vaibhav Suryavanshi earned accolades from all around the world and was also adjudged the Player of the Match in Rajasthan Royals’ eight wicket win against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

Seeing him etch several records with his 38-ball 101, he also received accolades from his state Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar. Taking to X, the Bihar CM wrote, “Congratulations and best wishes to Vaibhav Suryavanshi of Bihar, who became the youngest player (14 years) to score a century in the history of IPL. He has become a new hope for Indian cricket as a result of his hard work and talent. Everyone is proud of him.”

The political leader also recalled his meeting with the youngster stating, “I met Mr Vaibhav Suryavanshi and his father in 2024, and at that time, I wished him a bright future. After his brilliant performance in IPL, I also congratulated him over the phone.” The Bihar CM also announced a cash prize for the youngster adding, “Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a young cricketer from Bihar, will also be given a prize money of ₹10 lakh by the state government. I wish that Vaibhav creates new records for the Indian team in the future and brings glory to the country.”

Speaking of the youngster, Suryavanshi opened the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal for RR during their run chase of 210 in Jaipur. The youngster opened his innings with a six off Mohammed Siraj’s delivery and went on to complete his fifty off just 17 deliveries. He then converted into a century off just 35 balls, becoming the youngest to reach the three figure mark.
