The captain of India, Rohit Sharma, was none too pleased with the Indian fielders for dropping catches, during the batting innings of Nepal in the Asia Cup 2023 Group A clash , on September 4, Monday. When the 36-year-old managed to take a sharp catch at slip to help dismiss his opposing counterpart Rohit Paudel, he reacted angrily with some choice words to his players, letting them know how important it is to stay on your game at all times.
For the unversed, Rohit Sharma won the toss on a rainy afternoon at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy, to send Nepal in to bat first. The Indian fielding was a total let down during the powerplay, with Shreyas Iyer, Virat Kohli, and the wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan, all dropping catches one after another.

It led to the openers from Nepal, Kushal Bhurthel and Asif Sheikh taking full toll, notching up a 65 run stand for the first wicket. Shardul Thakur finally managed to pick up the first wicket for India in the 10th over of the innings, with Ishan Kishan holding on to the ball to send the right-handed batter Kushal Bhurthel back to the pavilion.
From this point onwards, the complexion of the match changed drastically, with Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav putting the squeeze on the scoring rate of Nepal. The left-arm orthodox spinner Ravindra Jadeja broke open the innings, picking up three quick wickets, including the opposition captain Rohit Paudel, to become the joint highest wicket taker for India in Asia Cup ODIs alongside Irfan Pathan (22).
