Indian weightlifters amazed everyone on Day 2 of the ongoing Commonwealth Games as they bagged back-to-back four medals on Saturday (July 31) in Birmingham. Mirabai Chanu was the star of the day as she clinched first gold medal for India in the women's 49kg weightlifting. She became the third medallist for India to have the podium finish as Sanket Sargar and Guruaja Poojary won silver and bronze earlier.
While the day 2 was about to conclude, yet another weightlifter in Bindyarani Devi clinched silver medal in the women's 55kg category. The whole country was elated to see incredible effort from weightlifters as social media platforms were flooded with congratulatory tweets for the winners.
However, a celebrated Indian cricketer goofed up big time on Twitter while wishing Indian athletes as he mistakenly mentioned 'first day' while it was second day of the multi-sporting event.
Indian Test batter Cheteshwar Pujara made a blunder on Twitter as he wrote, "Brilliant first day for India at the #CWG2022 as we bag all - a?? and ? in #Weightlifting. Many congratulations to @mirabai_chanu, Sanket Sargar and Gururaja Poojary for their performance ? You have made ?? proud. Well done."
Even after hours of posting the tweet, Pujara is yet to realize his mistake as his tweet remains on social media handle.
A Twitter user also reacted, informing Pujara that it was the second day of the marquee event.
Following the historic triumph on Day 2 of the CWG 2022, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, newly appointed Indian President Droupadi Murmu, master blaster Sachin Tendulkar were amongst millions who wished the athletes for opening India's account in the ongoing games.
After illustrious day 2, Indian contingent will be hoping to continue their winning momentum as some of the medal prospects athletes will be in action on third day of the event. Weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnuga will participate in the Men's 67kg match, while Yogeshwar Singh will be amongst top contenders in Men's All-round Final of Artistic Gymnastics. Indian woman cricket team will also lock horns with arch-rival Pakistan Women.
