Cameron Bancroft, the Australian cricketer, has been named the new captain of Gloucestershire for the County Championship 2025 season after going through injury “trauma” over the past month or so. In January this year, during a Big Bash League (BBL) game, Cameron Bancroft was involved in a horrifying collision with Daniel Sams while fielding for Sydney Thunder, and it led to both the players suffering nasty injuries.

As far as Cameron Bancroft was concerned, the Australian opening batter suffered a broken nose apart from sustaining a shoulder injury, and as per the report from ESPNcricinfo, he underwent a level of “trauma” from his injuries. Since then, the 32-year-old hasn’t been able to take the field in professional cricket, but at the same time, he is planning to make a return to the sport with Western Australia in the Sheffield Shield next month.

I'm really looking forward to this summer. It was a real honor: Cameron Bancroft

For the upcoming season of domestic cricket in England, Cameron Bancroft will be captaining Gloucestershire in place of Graeme van Buuren, who stepped down from the role at the end of last season. While speaking to the club’s website, he stated that his shoulder recovery is tracking alright after managing the trauma sustained as a result of the injury, while stating his intention to play professionally next month.

Apart from that, Cameron Bancroft thanked head coach Mark Alleyne of Gloucestershire for taking the chance on him as the new captain of the county team. He was quoted as saying, in the official statement on the club’s website, “I'm really looking forward to this summer. It was a real honor when Mark asked me. Graeme has led this group fantastically over the years, and he has built a strong foundation. My role now is to see what I can bring as a leader—building on what he's already delivered.”

Moreover, Gloucestershire will begin their County Championship 2025 Division 2 campaign with a trip away to Derbyshire on April 4 before Glamorgan arrived to their shores for a home fixture on April 11.
