The auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to take place on 23 December in Kochi. While the ten franchises and players wait for D-day, former players got a chance to sit on the auction table and bid for players from the auction list. A Mock Auction was conducted by the broadcasters on Thursday wherein the likes of Chris Gayle, Suresh Raina, Anil Kumble, Scott Styris, and other marquee players took part.

At the Mastercard Match Centre Live Auction War Room, former players placed their bids for players like Cameron Green, Ben Stokes, and Sam Curran. Sikandar Raza was also among the favourites of the bidders. While Scott Styris placed a massive bid of 20 Crore for Australia all-rounder Cameron Green, Suresh Raina looked interested in securing the services of former CSK teammate Sam Curran for his former franchise.

“He may not play the full tournament, but I think he could be the No. 1 pick for SRH, even over (Ben) Stokes,” said Styris while placing the highest bid for Green. Meanwhile, Chris Gayle, who was representing Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) was shocked at Styris’ bid for Green. “Surprise bid, unbelievable. No way this is going to happen. One has to factor in that Green has to play in Indian conditions,” said Gayle.
However, at the end of it all, five-time champions Mumbai Indians secured the services of Australian all-rounder Cameron Green to put things on rest.
