Caper Ruud, the Norwegian tennis player, who reached back-to-back finals at the French Open, is all set to represent Team Europe in Laver Cup 2023 against Team World. The sixth edition of this tennis tournament will be played at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada from September 22-24 later this year.
The former world number two tennis player is undefeated in the Laver Cup, scoring decisive victories in singles matches for Team Europe in Boston and London, in the last couple of years. Casper Ruud has already won ten titles on the ATP tour in his short career, with his best tennis coming on hard and clay court surfaces. Also, the player from Norway reached the final of US Open last year, where he went down to Carlos Alcaraz of Spain in a four-set thriller.
As the highest ranked Norwegian tennis player ever, the world number four Casper Ruud is going to join Stefanos Tsitsipas, Holger Rune, and Andrey Rublev, his nearest compatriots on the sporting scene. They will be captained by the legendary German tennis player Bjorn Borg, who is yet to name the final two players for Team Europe.
Bjorn Borg was quoted as saying about the inclusion of the player from Norway to the squad, “Casper is an exceptionally talented and dedicated young athlete making his way to the top of the sport.”
“I have no doubt he will break through to win a major soon. He has proven himself to be such an asset for Team Europe as a player and a teammate. It’s a privilege to have him back on the blue team,” opined the German.
Casper Ruud talked about feeling honoured to compete for Team Europe in the Laver Cup for the third time, with Bjorn Borg as the captain. He said, “It has been an honor competing for Team Europe these past two years, playing on the same team with an unbelievable group of champions, and with Bjorn Borg as our captain.”
Team Europe is going to take on Team World, captained by the American tennis legend John McEnroe. He has already announced the four out of six members of his team, namely, Taylor Fritz, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Frances Tiafoe, and Nick Kyrgios.
