With the third edition of Women’s Premier League (WPL) underway and all teams having played at least one match, Deepti Sharma-led UP Warriorz are set to receive another blow. According to reports, Sri Lanka all-rounder Chamari Athapaththu, who plays for the Warriorz in WPL is set to leave the ongoing tournament midway.
According to ESPNcricinfo, Athapaththu has confirmed her availability for Sri Lanka’s white-ball tour of New Zealand, which is set to commence from March 4 in Napier. Seeing this, the all-rounder will have to leave her WPL side UP Warriorz after the franchise first suffered a blow in Alyssa Healy ahead of the tournament.
Athapaththu likely to be available till February 26
If the reports are to be believed, it is being said that Athapaththu will be available till February 26, potentially featuring in four more matches in the tournament. The UP Warriorz have played only one match so far, where they suffered a defeat at the hands of Gujarat Giants. However, the Sri Lankan all-rounder did not feature in the match as they opted to play Tahila McGrath, Grace Harris, Sophie Ecclestone and Alana King.
The bottom placed side will next take on Delhi Capitals on Wednesday, February 19 at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara.
