Premier League giants Chelsea have announced the signing of Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana on a £70 million transfer fee on Wednesday. After signing  Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli and Marc Cucurella from Brighton, Chelsea have signed third defender this summer.

After the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, Chelsea set their sights on  Jules Kounde and Matthijs de Ligt, who signed for Barcelona and Bayern Munich respectively. However, the Premier League club have finally filled the vacated position with their fourth bid for the French defender  Wesley Fofana .

The 21-year-old Frenchman signed a massive seven-year deal until 2029 while the deal has costed Chelsea  £70m plus £10m in add-ons. With the deal, Fofana became third-most expensive defender in the history, behind Harry Maguire and Virgil van Dijk.

After the announcement,  Fofana said, " The two last days have been really big days for me and I’m very happy.  I trained this morning with the team and it’s a dream for me. I’m very excited to start playing games for the fans and the club."

"I’m here to win trophies – the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, everything. I came here to win and the club is built to win trophies so I’m here to continue that," he added.

Meanwhile, Chelsea lost their Premier League tie against Southampton last night as the Saints came from behind to beat the Blues 2-1 at the  St. Mary's Stadium. Chelsea will host West Ham United in the Premier League 2022-23 on September 3 before facing Dinamo Zagreb at Maksimir in UEFA Champions League 2022-23 group stage opener on Tuesday.
