In a big development, English club Chelsea are reportedly set to close a deal with the German club Borussia Dortmund for winger Jamie Gittens. According to the report by ESPN, members representing this deal from both the teams held deliberative discussions regarding this matter in the United States of America (USA) during the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup 2025, where Gittens is representing Borussia Dortmund.
The report says that Gittens’ current camp of Dortmund are still holding out a fee in excess of €58 million for Gittens, but further negotiations are in place with Chelsea, the latter is excited to have Gittens as he is a right-footed winger who can play on the left as well. Chelsea have tabled a seven-year offer to tempt Gittens. Many experts and former players are coining this buy as the desperation of club transfer chiefs of The Blues to bring their former youth star back home, as they have already spent €1.4 billion to assemble their current squad.

Gittens, who spent time at Chelsea academy, had spells with Reading and City’s youth sides before moving to Germany and progressing into Dortmund’s first team. He enjoyed a breakthrough season last term, netting eight goals in 32 Bundesliga matches. To talk about his overall game, across 48 games in all competitions before the Club World Cup, 34 of which he started, Gittens netted 12 goals and added five assists.
According to the reports and information by the sources, his club are said to be expecting him to leave this summer, but he has already etched his name in the history books there. In October, ar 20 years and 75 days old, Gitterns became the youngest English player to score against Real Madrid in the Champions League. And only four months prior in June, he was starring in the Champions League final for the German side against Real Madrid, coming on as a late substitute for Jadon Sancho.
Chelsea has qualified for the Club World Cup Round of 16 on Tuesday after earning a 3-0 win over Esperance de Tunis which saw Liam Delap score his first goal for the club. According to the rules, they can register any new signings for the Club World Cup knockout stages from Friday in time for their next Round of 16 tie with Benfica. The Blues can add upto six players, but four of those would have to replace existing squad members - only two can join in addition to those already Stateside. They would also have to notify FIFA at least 24 hours before kick-off in Charlotte, so they can meet the deadline.
