Chris Eubank Jr has recently announced a rematch with Liam Smith that is due to take place on September 2. The last time the two fought was in Manchester, where Smith produced a knockout victory against Eubank Jr in the fourth round. A rematch was initially slated for July but has been postponed to September following a minor injury to Smith.

But the fight is now confirmed by Eubank Jr on social media. The fighter tweeted the date on Friday. In an odd turn of events, Smith later said that he wasn’t sure if the fight was really happening, instead stating that Eubank Jr was slated to fight Conor Benn. He, however, did not deny the claims, but insists he hasn’t had any confirmation of the same. This was reiterated by Eubank’s promoter Kalle Sauerland who stated that the fight remains in discussion.

“It’s nice he’s found his phone and his voice,” Smith said. “I’ve not heard anything, any confirmation about that. I was told today he’s fighting Conor Benn.” The tweet by Eubank read, “Eubank vs Smith 2 at the 02 September 2nd @LiamBeefySmith #LetsDoThis #NoMoreExcuses #Revenge.”

Liam Smith recovers from injury

It is reported that Smith is now 100 per cent injury free and raring to go for the rematch, as confirmed by promoter Ben Shalom. "We've had the news on Liam Smith this week, really good news about his fitness, he's 100 percent fit for a date we were looking at," said Shalom, as per Sky Sports.

“He's getting better and better and better and can fight for a world title for the second time and become a two-time world champion,” continued Shalom. "To get an injury at this stage in his career was heartbreaking and difficult, not just for the Eubank fight,” he concluded. Smith is a former WBO light-middleweight champion who won between 2015 and 2016.
