The reigning ODI World Cup champion, England are taking on the Netherland s in Match 40 of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. While it was Jos Buttler who won the toss and opted to bat first at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, they posted 270/6 at the end of 45 overs.

With the Angelo Mathews timed out dismissal being the talk of the tournament, Chris Woakes, who took the field after Moeen Ali’s dismissal was prompt to inform the on-field umpire of the helmet issue before the opponents appealing for the same. The incident unfolded ahead of the third delivery of the 36th over, when Woakes went upto the umpire jokingly having a chat for timed out. Pictures of the same have been doing rounds on X.

Notably, Angelo Mathews became the first player to be timed out in international cricket history in match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in Delhi. The veteran cricketer has since then, voiced his opinion on the same, sharing video evidence of the incident with the timer still showing five seconds left for the decision.
