In 2022, Flamengo won the Copa Libertadores while Al Ahly won the CAF Champions League in 2021 to qualify for the FIFA Club World Cup 2022 from South America and Africa club competitions. Currently, Flamengo's forward Pedro and Al Hilal's Salem Al-Dawsari are the joint top scorers in the competition with two goals.
