The five-time champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have had a torrid season in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Although, they became the first franchise to bow out of the IPL 2025, making it the first time in IPL history finish outside the playoffs race for two consecutive season. However, they are currently taking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their 11th match of the league stage at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, May 3.
However, they are already out, the MS Dhoni-led side has reaffirmed that they are looking to rebuild a side for the next season, IPL 2026. While this remains at one end, seeing Dhoni play a key role in building a new-look side for the edition, implies that the stalwart will continue to feature in the tournament.

However, the 43-year-old legend put forward his intentions clear ahead of the ongoing edition regarding his future in the league, his comments after defeat against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium further confirmed his participation. Speaking after the defeat, MS said, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo, “We need to see if we are playing the right form of cricket, trying to put right amount of runs.”
“A few more catches will help, we are trying to plug in the holes. Take one game at a time. Look at the combinations for the next season, if we don’t qualify," the wicketkeeper-batter further added, potentially hinting at his participation in the next edition of the cash-rich league.
Moreover, his participation in the next edition was further confirmed as he asserted on focussing on defining roles for the players when he spoke of his decision after winning the toss against RCB. After inviting the hosts to bat first, MS Dhoni at the toss said, “We are looking to bowl first. We want to make the most of the last four games we have got. Try to look into next year and which indivdual will fit into what role. Yes we want to win games but getting the most of the four games is important.”
