I n a big update, it is being reported that cricket, which is seeing its return in the Olympics Games in 2028, is set to move out of the host nation, Los Angeles. If reports are to be believed, cricket in the 2028 LA Olympics will see the sport being played in that state of New York, almost a six-hour flight away.

Moreover, these developments come in order to gain viewership of the Indians. According to a report in the Times, Casey Wasserman, Chairman of the 2028 LA Games organising committee addressed that the plan for cricket will be chalked keeping India in mind. It is to be noted that cricket will be making its return at the quadrennial Games after 128 years in the T20 format, although the venues are still under discussion.

2028 LA Olympics cricket competition likely to be held on East Coast of US

According to recent reports, the men’s and women’s cricket competitions will take place on the East Coast because of the more favourable time zone compared to the West Coast for Indian viewers. Earlier this year, New York served as a host to some of the matches in the T20 World Cup 2024.

It is likely that pre-existing infrastructure could be used to achieve "more than USD 150 million in savings and new revenue to help maintain a balanced budget (for the Olympics)," Wasserman has said earlier this year, according to 'Sportico.com'.

Cricket is among six sports, along with baseball, softball, flag football, squash and lacrosse, added to the LA28 Olympic roster. It was in the Olympic Games once before, in 1900.
