Cricket Australia (CA) has decided to back its players who won’t show up in the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The league will be returning on May 17 as it was suspended on May 9, due to the military conflict between India and Pakistan. Following the suspension, several overseas players left for their countries in which Australia stalwarts Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood were also there. Reportedly, these two players might not return to represent their IPL sides for the remainder of the competition. Amidst these developments, CA has come up with a statement which extends support to players.

CA’s latest statement read, “Cricket Australia will support players in their individual decisions whether to return to India or not. Team management will work through the preparation implications for the World Test Championship final for those players who choose to play in the remaining IPL matches. We are maintaining communication with the Australian Government and BCCI around security arrangements and safety.”

Australia to take on South Africa in the World Test Championship final 2025

Australia will be clashing against South Africa in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final to be played at iconic Lord’s from June 11 to 15. Under Pat Cummins, the Aussies will look to defend the title successfully and add another Test mace to their cabinet. The reigning champions sealed the WTC final berth after eliminating India in January.

South Africa advanced to the final of the illustrious Test tournament following their one-sided win against Pakistan in a Test match played in Centurion in December 2024. This will be the Protea side’s maiden appearance in the WTC finals while Australia will show up for the second time on the trot. It will be the first instance when India won’t feature in the finals of the World Test Championship.
