Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portugal captain, has confirmed that he won’t be playing in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, beginning on June 14, in the United States of America. The 40-year-old is currently under Al-Nassr contract which is set to expire at the end of June, and with the Saudi Arabian club not qualifying for the prestigious event, he was expected to join other participating clubs to play in the tournament later this month.
According to Cristiano Ronaldo himself, there were offers made by some of the participating clubs in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 to sign him, which would have given him the opportunity to play in the tournament. But, in his recent interview, he spoke about how he liked the offers of some of the clubs, but not others before deciding to not participate in the Club World Cup, which is set to be played as a full-fledged 32-team tournament for the first-time ever.
I will not be at the Club World Cup. Some teams reached out to me: Cristiano Ronaldo
The excerpts of Cristiano Ronaldo’s interview on the situation read, “I will not be at the Club World Cup. Some teams reached out to me. Some made sense and others did not, but you can't try and do everything. You can't catch every ball.” Just a couple of weeks ago, Cristiano Ronaldo sent out a cryptic post with his picture in an Al-Nassr jersey, which read, “This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all,” raising speculation about him not staying with the Saudi Arabian club next season.
While Cristiano Ronaldo had stated that the decision about his future has almost been finalised, it is understood that Al-Nassr are confident about extending the current contract with him, as reported by BBC. Moreover, he is currently focused on international duty with Portugal, set to lead his country in the final of the UEFA Nations League on Sunday, June 8, against Spain at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
Notably, in the semi-final of the tournament against Germany, Cristiano Ronaldo scored for Portugal, to help them earn a 2-1 win.
