Crystal Palace have reportedly told Manchester United that they will need to shell out £40 million to sign their striker Jean-Philippe Mateta this summer, which won’t be easy for the club with their financial constraints. As per the latest reports, the Red Devils have started talking with Crystal Palace about bringing in the Frenchman to Old Trafford in the upcoming transfer window, to solve the goal-scoring problem for Ruben Amorim’s struggling side.

Notably, with the difficult financial position that Manchester United find themselves in, they will need to offload a few players to generate funds to complete the purchase of Jean-Philippe Mateta. As per the report from the Mirror, this is especially when Crystal Palace want to cash in big time on their star player, while the options of Manchester United up-front, including the likes of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee misfiring.

Rasmus Hojlund has scored only two Premier League goals for Manchester United this season

After scoring just two goals in the Premier League this season, Rasmus Hojlund hasn’t been a regular starter for Manchester United, and time is fast running out for him as far as his future at the club is concerned. This would mean that the English football giants will be needing a new striker to bolster their attacking line, and Jean-Philippe Mateta fits the bill for them.

Moreover, it was just last week when the Frenchman suffered a nasty head injury after a rough challenge with Millwall keeper Liam Roberts during the FA Cup tie at home. This led to him getting rushed to the hospital, where 25 stitches were needed to close up the wound, but luckily for him and the club, his absence didn’t stop them in defeating the Championship side 3-1, to make the quarter-final of the competition, where they will be facing Fulham.

Jean-Philippe Mateta scored 15 goals for Crystal Palace this season, including 12 in the Premier League 2024-25 campaign, making him a sought-after player for many clubs in Europe and beyond.
