CWG 2022 Badminton: Lakshya Sen beat Sri Lankan opponent 21-18, 21-5

After a thrilling win by the mixed doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Machimanda Ponnappa, Lakshya Sen fought a neck-and-neck battle to go past his Sri Lankan opponent.

Lakshya Sen battled past a hard-fought first set 21-18 against Niluka Karunaratne. The tenth-seeded was trailing at a given moment by a point ow two but did not let pressure fall in place as he took a lead eventually to clinch the set.

Despite the struggling first set, Sen took a massive lead 12-2 to up his game from the very start. He eventually ended by winning the set 21-5 over Karunaratne.

With this win, India are now 2-0 up against Sri Lanka in the tie. Aakarashi Kashyap will next play her Sri Lankan opponent, followed by B Sumeeth Reddy and Chirag Shetty going up against the Sri Lankans in the men's doubles event of the tie.

To end the badminton mixed team event for the day, the final battle will be fought between Gayathri Gopichand/Treesa Jolly and Suhasni Vidanage/Thilini Hendahewa of Sri Lanka.
