Days after clinching bronze medal at the recently-concluded Commonwealth Games 2022, Indian wrestler Divya Kakran drew a lot of attention from media for making stern allegations on Delhi government for not fulfilling their previous promises of rewarding Olympic-medallist athletes and not providing enough facility to prepare Delhi-bound athletes.
Minutes after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal congratulated the wrestling contingent for delivering impressive performance at CWG 2022, Kakran had hit back at the CM for not providing her enough help when she needed it the most. Ever since, Kakran expressed her anguish on Twitter, couple of Aam Aadmi Party spokesperson have slammed the wrestler for targeting the Delhi government at the behest of BJP and despite representing Uttar Pradesh, she is asking for rewards and financial assistance from Delhi government.
While the Twitter war between Divya Kakran and Delhi government is continuously brewing, BJP's North East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari took the limelight after he paid a visit to the wrestler and let Kakran tie him a rakhi on the auspicious occasion of Rakshabandhan on Friday.
Tiwari also claimed that he has given the wrestler INR 5 Lakh cheque and has hit back at Delhi government for stooping too low by asking for a proof from a wrestler, who has made India proud by winning a medal at Commonwealth Games 2022. The Aam Aadmi Party government of Delhi on Thursday put out 'evidence' that wrestler Divya Kakran who has been claiming non-cooperation by the Delhi government received Delhi's assistance before 2017 when she used to play for Delhi. Showcasing the screenshots of an email exchange between government department and the Wrestling Federation of India, AAP claimed that WFI has clarified that Divya Kakran has been representing Uttar Pradesh since 2017.
In another document, AAP presented the list of amount of money that has been paid to Divya Kakran by the Delhi government between 2010, and 2017. In 2013-14, Divya received INR 1 Lakh from the Delhi government, INR 42,000 in 2014-15 and 2016-17, according to the document.
