In a shocking development, husband of CWG 2022 bronze medallist Pooja Sihag, Ajay Nandal breathed his last under mysterious circumstances on Saturday.  As per reports, the national level wrestler's body has been sent for postmortem and the report is still awaited. 

Reportedly the wrestler was consuming alcohol near Maharani Kishori Jat Kanya Mahavidyalaya College when he went unconscious. "Early reports informed us that few people felt uneasy after consuming alcohol and were taken to nearby hospital. Pooja Nandal's husband died while his companion Sonu and Ravi are undergoing treatment," local police was quoted in several reports.

However, Nandal's father alleged that his son was overdosed with drugs and his companion are involved in the matter. Pooja Sihag got married to Ajay Nandal last year. Pooja's husband Ajay Nandal was also a wrestler since 2010 and was also working in CISF. 

Speaking of Pooja, the Indian wrestler bagged a bronze medal in the Women's Freestyle 76kg category and was recently honored by the Haryana government on Independence Day. 

She was rewarded with INR 57.5 Lakh by the state government. The Indian grappler gave a spectacular performance in the quarterfinals by winning against Australia's Naomi de Bruine in Commonwealth Games 2022. A total of twenty players from Haryana won medals at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.

In the Commonwealth Games 2022, the Indian contingent finished fourth with a total of 61 medals (22 gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze). Australia topped the medal tally with 67 gold, 57 silver and 54 bronze medals. On the other hand, hosts England secured the second position with 57 gold medals and Canada secured the third position with 26 gold medals.
