Indian contingent had a great outing at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham as the country finished fourth in the medals tally with a total of 61 medals including 20 Golds, 15 Silver and 23 Bronze medals. While wrestling and weightlifting dominated the event with twelve and ten medals, the Indian boxing contingent was also not far behind as it earned seven medals including three Golds, one silver and three bronze.

As the multi-sporting event concluded on Monday with a series of cultural events to commemorate the participation of athletes from all around the world, Indian boxers received a warm welcome at the Delhi airport after a successful campaign at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. Indian boxers Amit Panghal, Rohit Tokas, Jasmine Lamboria and Sagar Ahlawat were received by their family, friends and supporters with drums and cheers reverberated at the airport as the medal-winning squad was garlanded and sweets were distributed.

A video of the welcome received by gold medallist Nikhat Zareen has surfaced on social media.

Upon arrival, Amit Pandhal, who clinched Gold for the country after defeating England's Kiaran Macdonald in the final of 48-51kg (flyweight) expressed his happiness and said that he is really happy after winning the medal for the country. "I would like to keep this happiness intact and would keep making efforts to raise country's name and honor in future," said Panghal. Notably, Panghal dominated his final against his England counterpart and won it by 5-0.

Another gold medalist Nitu Ghangas, who also won a gold medal received a warm welcome at the airport and termed her performance as 'best ever.' "I will train harder and keep winning gold for my country," she told the reporters. Boxer Nitu Ghangas bagged the gold medal after defeating England's Demie-Jade Resztan in the summit-clash of the women's 48 kg category. She won on basis of points by 5-0 over her English opponent.

Rohit Tokas, who clinched bronze medal at CWG 2022 said that he is extremely proud to see people coming from his village to welcome him and he thanked everyone from the bottom of his heart. Tokas clinched the bronze medal in the Men's 67kg Welterweight category after losing to Zambia's Stephen Zimba.

Sagar Ahlawar who clinched a Silver medal in the Men's over 92kg category, received a warm welcome from his family and was extremely delighted to see the response.
