CWG 2022: India’s Vinesh Phogat beats Canadian opponent Samantha Stewart in Women's Freestyle 53 kg

Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat defeated her Canadian opponent Samantha Stewart in her first match of the Women’s Freestyle 53kg- Nordic round to start her 2022 CWG campaign on a high. Phogat beat Stewart in thirty-six seconds. It was a victory by fall for the Indian wrestler. Phogat then continued her dominance and defeated a Nigerian wrestler in her second match to earn more valuable points.

Phogat beat Mercy Bolafunuluwa-Adekuoroyo 6-0 (Victory by points). She will next face Sri Lanka's Chamodya Keshani in the third match of the Nordic round to better her position in the standings.

Also, another Indian wrestler Pooja Gehlot made a great start to her CWG 2022 campaign. She won the first match of her nordic round against Rebecca Ndolo Muambo of Cameroon by forfeit. She did not even have to step inside the mat as her opponent forfeited the bout.

Gehlot later went on to win her second match against Scotland's Christelle Lemofack Letchidjio. This match lasted for two minutes and thirty seconds. Gehlot was extremely dominant in this contest as she won it by 12-2 on basis of technical superiority. Both women are at the top of their nordic Groups.
