On Saturday, April 27, Delhi Capitals defeated Mumbai Indians by 10 runs to register their fifth win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The Australian youngster, Jake Fraser-McGurk, who played a match-defining innings of 84 off 27, set-up the victory for Delhi Capitals, helping them post a massive score of 257/4, which their bowlers managed to defend successfully.

After winning the toss, Hardik Pandya, the captain of Mumbai Indians, decided to field first citing the small nature of the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. But, the Delhi Capitals opener Jake Fraser-McGurk took the Mumbai Indians bowlers to the sword, scoring 84 off just 27 balls, an innings which included 11 fours and five maximums, to set up the batting effort for his team.

The exploits from Jake Fraser-McGurk were followed by small but vital contributions from the likes of Abishek Porel, Shai Hope, Tristan Stubbs, and the captain Rishabh Pant, propelling the Delhi Capitals total to 257/4. Despite the big score from the DC batters, there were two MI bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah and Piyush Chawla, who managed to concede runs at just around nine to the over.

In their pursuit of the 258-run target, Mumbai Indians lost the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav inside the powerplay, to find themselves in a tough spot early on. But the captain Hardik Pandya played an enterprising innings of 46 off 24, to keep MI in the run chase.

After the dismissal of Hardik Pandya, it was Tilak Varma who took over the batting innings of Mumbai Indians, scoring 63 off 32, while Tim David also contributed with some runs. But, at the very end, Delhi Capitals managed to keep them to 247/9, winning the contest by 10 runs.
